Golf makes a positive impact on women’s networking in Norfolk

Drive

A recently launched networking group in Norwich aims to bring women together for networking, golf, fresh air and fun.

Drive! Norfolk Women’s Golfing Network (Drive!), was set up by three business women and PGA professional Peter Field to provide an active way of monthly networking along with expert golf tuition suitable for golfers or total beginners.

“The group was set up because there are already so many business networking groups in the area and the founders were looking for something really different that would appeal. Golf really stood out as the perfect networking activity for women. It’s easy to talk when you are focussed on a shared activity and friendships form much more naturally,” says Amanda Bunn a digital PR manager.

Networking and golf has traditionally been seen as the preserve of businessmen – but Drive! is challenging that perception. Not only can attendees learn or improve their golfing skill as well as enjoy themselves, but it’s a natural platform for business networking too.

The group, which now numbers 35 just a year after it was launched, meets midweek 4pm-6pm at Norwich Family Golf Centre. Starting with a catch up over tea and cake followed by a coaching session on the driving range, ending with half-hour networking and refreshments.

“We’ve found that people love starting at 4pm because it doesn’t impact on your working day as much as a lunch or morning meeting,” says Amanda.

“What we all love is that it’s a healthy balance to working life, as well as a great way to network. Many of us sit down all day in front of a computer and this gets you out in the fresh air to exercise. It also helps us switch off and concentrate on learning or improving a skillset.”

Members have formed friendships and some are meeting up between the monthly events to go to the driving range together after work. After 12 months it’s fantastic to see that everybody has progressed their golf and some members are now close to getting a handicap, gain the confidence to participate in corporate golf days and join a golf club.
